Commissioned work: Pteranodon

I was commissioned by a Pokémon card fan to draw an illustration of a Pteranodon.

The item was shipped overseas, but it arrived safely by airmail, which is a great relief. Thank you very much for your order.

I drew on washi paper with ink and then colored it with Japanese watercolors. Finally, I pasted washi paper onto a board the size of a shikishi (square art board) to finish it as a shikishi. Initially, I tried to draw directly on the shikishi, but the paper quality wasn't suitable, so I drew on a more appropriate paper before finishing it.

Each artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity.

This practice of individuals commissioning illustrations they like, with illustrators producing them for a fee, is called "commissioning" and is becoming quite popular overseas. Since ink painting and pen drawings are more suitable for this type of illustration than collage, I want to become more familiar with creating illustrations using ink painting and colored paper so I can continue to handle such requests in the future.

While I cannot draw Pokémon themselves due to licensing restrictions, I can create original designs of dinosaurs that may have actually existed, as well as commonly imagined dragons, phoenixes, and other animals.

Based on its morphology, we thought that Pteranodons might have hunted fish, and we based its colors on those of waterfowl that hunt fish, such as ospreys and herons.

It's really fun to imagine and draw creatures that may have lived in ancient times, using fossils and other references.

I'd like to start drawing illustrations of dinosaurs and other creatures in the future.
